  • 100% Online Machine Learning High Energy Physics (MLHEP) Course

CERN, Yandex School of Data Analysis, Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis of HSE University and High Energy Physics Laboratory at EPFL rely on Alemira to build an online platform for an innovative summer program covering the young area of data analysis and computational research that has started to emerge in High Energy Physics (HEP).

The two-week course, offered by The Seventh Machine Learning summer school, held in July of 2021, is a 100% online Machine Learning High Energy Physics (MLHEP) course that spans a variety of topics. Starting from traditional Machine Learning approaches to Deep Neural Networks techniques. The materials, deployed on the Alemira platform, provide students with an engaging escapade on this new field including the theoretical introduction and practical experience. The ultimate goal is the learning how to apply acquired knowledge better to solve their specific problems.

“Machine learning courses are difficult to transfer between domains. For Physics students to benefit to the full extend, the materials must be prepared with care and attention to detail.“
Evgenia Kulikova,
Head of Yandex School of Data Analysis academic department

Through the Alemira Learning Management System (LMS), students will be able to better engage, interact and connect not only with course materials but also one another and their instructors, creating a more enriched and dynamic online learning environment. The course, built on Pelican, offers concrete examples and hands-on tutorials as well as a special data-science competition designed to allow participants to get better feeling of real-life Machine Learning (ML) applications scenarios. Through Alemira’s digital ecosystem for Active Education, students will gain practical knowledge through transformative online learning.

Andrey Ustyuzhanin
Head of Yandex School of Data Analysis academic department
“We are happy to have in our team experts from the Machine Learning community that teach ML topics regularly as well as practitioners from different Physics research fields as invited speakers.“

Designed for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, the ECTS accredited MLHEP course virtually brings together more than 100 students from all over the world to participate in the MLHEP 2021 course. Merging a diverse group of advanced scientists and researchers made possible due to the advanced technologies of today’s online learning offerings.

“Providing Active Learning solutions that offer a more dynamic online learning environment is crucial to the future of education. We are proud to support prestigious institutions like CERN in building more interactive and enriched online courses that enable students and instructors to create a more streamlined and conducive educational experience.“
